Three Days of Digital Content Creation: Camp Awesome for Grown Ups

I love creating the strategy behind the creation of our brand’s content, and then overseeing its execution… and we do it all in house.

With all the buzz about content marketing – why isn’t anyone offering to show people how to do it?

Here’s a three-day workshop that does just that.*

DAY ONE: Understand the digital audience, tell your story

9:00 – 9:30 Welcome and introductions

  • Who I am, who will be joining us
  • Who are you, why are you here? What are you keen to learn, what frightens you
  • Housekeeping: bathrooms, lunch, afternoon coffee, etc.

9:30 – 10: 30   Key elements of storytelling

  • What makes a great story
  • Essential elements of storytelling
  • Evolution of blogs

10: 30 – 10:45 BREAK

11:00 – 12:00 Blogging

  • How people read online
  • How search engines work
  • What makes a story go viral
  • Hands on: Let’s set up a blog! (Or update your existing blog)

12:00 – 12: 45 LUNCH IS SERVED

12:45 – 2:30 Creating a story around your brand

  • What’s the story behind your personal/company brand
  • Case Studies: stories that capture imagination
  • Hands on: tell me a story about you

2:30 – 2:45 BREAK – Coffee is served

2:45 – 4:30 Writing for someone else

  • Understanding your audience
  • How to write to engage your audience
  • Meet your audience – that stranger beside you
  • Hands on: write a story that would appeal to your partner

4:30 – 4:45 Share your stories

4: 45 – 5:00 Housekeeping

  • What tomorrow will bring – bring your photos, your phones!
  • We’ll shoot and edit photos and video in class – fun
DAY TWO: Let’s get visual!

9:00 – 10:30 Photo shooting and editing

  • Yes! You can take great photos on your mobile device
  • Do’s and Don’t’s for great photos
  • How brands are reaching their audience with visual storytelling
  • Filters – love ‘em or lose ‘em?
  • Photo editing – two tools

10:30 – 10:45 BREAK

10:45 – 12:00 Photos, your way

  • Hands on: Take 20 photos using your smartphone. Let’s edit!
  • Hands on: Create an online slideshow, show them off

12: 00 – 12: 45 LUNCH IS SERVED (while we look at slideshows)

12:45 – 2:30 Shooting Video

  • How to shoot a sequence and tell a story
  • Do’s and Don’t’s for shooting video
  • Hands on: Grab your phone! Shoot a video sequence to tell a 1 min story

2:30 – 2:45 BREAK – Coffee is served

2:45 – 5:00 Time to edit

  • Basic editing using iMovie
  • Tips and tricks for editing video
  • Hands on: Let’s make a one-minute story (120 mins)
DAY THREE: Going Social

9:00 – 9:20 Movie time

  • Watch videos from yesterday’s workshop

9:20 – 10:30 So many social media platforms, so little time

  • Understanding social media platforms and the different audiences
  • Selecting the correct social media platform for your message
  • How to decide which social media platforms you should be on
  • Managing and growing your online community

10:30 – 10:45 BREAK

10:45 – 12:00 Your message on different social platforms

  • What is Periscope, should you use it – and if so, how?
  • Hands on: Your choice! Shoot an Instagram video or Periscope
  • Hands on: Tell the same message on different platforms! Create a social media comms strategy for four social media platforms

12: 00 – 12:45 LUNCH IS SERVED

12:45 – 2:30 Social media and Crisis Communications

  • Can you control the conversation?
  • Case studies: Good and bad crisis comms on social media
  • How crisis communications changes with social media

2:30 – 2:45 BREAK Coffee is served

2:45 – 4:30 Creating crisis comms plans for a social media backlash

  • Hands on: Using scenario provided, create a social media crisis comms plan
  • Share what you’ve created with the group!

4:30 – 5:00 Workshop wrap up, feedback
